Memphis Milano
Memphis Milano is an Italian design brand founded in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass and notably Michele De Lucchi, Matteo Thun, Martine Bedin, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Shiro Kuramata, and George J. Sowden.
The brand takes its name from the Bob Dylan song "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again".
Memphis' colorful and eccentric creations revolutionized design in the 1980s, deliberately placing themselves outside the canons of "good taste" of the time. They are symbols of Anti-design and New Design of the time.
The "Memphis Milano" catalog brings together the icons designed by the Memphis collective from 1981 to 1988. Memphis works are exhibited today in the most prestigious museums and sought after by collectors around the world.
The "Memphis Milano" company continues to produce by hand in Italy around fifty historical pieces from the catalog, all bearing the "Memphis" seal, delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
