The Emergence of Memphis Milano

The "Memphis Milano" catalog brings together the iconic creations of the Memphis collective. These pieces redefined the design landscape of the 80s, while also transforming the creative and commercial standards of that period.

The Revolutionary Movement

Founded in Milan in 1981 under the leadership of Ettore Sottsass, Memphis brought together creative minds from all over the world, such as Michele De Lucchi, Nathalie Du Pasquier, George J. Sowden, and many others. Diving into artistic extravagance, Memphis moved away from the aesthetic conventions of the time, breaking with the conformism of traditional design and the sobriety of the Bauhaus. The aesthetic became bold, colorful, and whimsical, marking a radical turning point.

The Brilliance of the Revolution

The first Memphis collection shook the world of design with its patterns, colors, bold shapes, and innovative use of plastic laminate. The Memphis revolution extended its influence to media and sparked enthusiasm, bringing a new dimension to contemporary design.

Signs of Recognition

Memphis creations were elevated as symbols of Anti-design and New Design, revealing an unlimited creativity liberated from industrial and market constraints. At the intersection of design, architecture, art, and postmodernism, these exceptional pieces are today coveted by international collectors and honored in the most prestigious museums.

Le designer

Ettore Sottsass

Memphis Milano
