Martin Parr, born on May 23, 1952, in Epsom, is a British documentary photographer and has been a member of the Magnum Photos cooperative since 1994.
Throughout his career, he has taken a self-portrait in every country or city he has visited.
Characterized by derision and irony, Martin Parr’s work aligns with the field of documentary photography, for which he offers a new approach.
His work stands as one of the preeminent records of British society during the Margaret Thatcher era.
He has worked on numerous projects by creating series, for example on tourism, where he highlights the contrast between expectation and reality, or a series on himself, taken over several years, in which he maintains the same pose. With him and others, vernacular photography has become a major genre of photography. He has even stated that the concept of boredom fascinates him.
