Born in Paris on April 28, 1939.

"I create toys for adults"
Louis Durot initially created for the industry.
Studies in the field of organic chemistry led him to head several research departments in the 1960s.
In 1968, he founded his own polyurethane research company called Durgalith.
A few years earlier, it was through his meeting with François Arnal that Louis Durot discovered the New Realists and joined César Baldaccini (1921-1998) as an assistant.
César then expected him to enable the development of his "expansions" (1965) through the creation of a new, more malleable and durable material.
The time spent with César was an opportunity for Louis Durot to discover and enter an artistic world that was previously unknown to him. His technical knowledge was a real asset, allowing him to stand out.
Niki de Saint Phalle also asked him for advice on her Nanas, while he met great artistic figures such as Pierre Restany, Arman, and Robert Malaval, who provided his artistic education.
In addition to his research in the industrial sector, Louis Durot chose play. The play of sensation and indulgence.
He is a true cook. Like a pastry chef, he creates recipes, blends, and builds volumes and forms.
However, unlike the cold chemist of the agri-food industry he could have been, he decided to compose a type of nourishment whose purpose is not to feed, but to provide pleasure.
These pieces of furniture are functional even though they do not look like it. Furthermore, although the forms are recognizable, one cannot understand how they are constructed.
Louis Durot's experiments go against the grain of *trompe l'oeil*, which consists of making us believe there is something when there is nothing. Through his work, Louis Durot makes us believe, on the contrary, that there is nothing when there is everything.
A taste and a function. In that hierarchical order, obviously.
Louis Durot is a love for the creation of abstract volume through the scientific research of matter.
Louis Durot is also a game for adults, drifting into carnal pleasures.
Unlike the Spirale (1980) or Donut (1990) armchairs, which allow the material to shine in all its forms, the Saint-Siège (1970) is an example of a much more figurative facet of the artist's work, a legacy of his art, at the crossroads of the New Realists and Italian Radical Design.
Just like in the Échauffeuse (1980), Louis Durot works with a realistic approach, specifically taking the forms of the female body as his subject.
As the artist explains, endowed with unique technology and existing fantasies that could not be realized otherwise than by his mastery, he inherited the mission of using his knowledge to fulfill them.
By resulting in works of palpable sexual tension, scathing provocation, and striking technical uniqueness. "
