This chair is the result of early experiments in plywood molding conducted by Charles and Ray Eames starting in 1945.
It was described as an "aesthetic brio and technical inventiveness" by Eliot Noyes, director of the MoMA’s industrial design department, in 1946.
Created through plywood molding, it was designed to provide optimal comfort for as many people as possible. The Eameses studied the structure of human bones to perfect their molding.
Modeled and tested hundreds of times, the final chair consists of two parts: the petal-shaped back and seat.
The LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) is produced by Herman Miller in the United States and under license by Vitra in Europe.
Thanks to the organic lines of the shells and the slightly flexible backrests, these lightweight and compact lounge chairs are extremely comfortable.
