This chair is the result of early experiments conducted by Charles and Ray Eames starting in 1945 on molding plywood.
It was described as an "aesthetic triumph and technical inventiveness" by Eliot Noyes, director of the MoMA’s Department of Industrial Design in 1946.
Created through plywood molding, it was designed to provide optimal comfort for as many people as possible. The Eameses studied the structure of the human skeleton to perfect their molding process.
Modeled and tested hundreds of times, the final chair consists of two parts: the petal-shaped backrest and seat.
The LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) is produced by Herman Miller in the United States and under license by Vitra in Europe.
Thanks to the organic lines of the shells and the slightly flexible backrests, these light and compact lounge chairs are extremely comfortable.
