Learn more about this product

The Action Office was the world's first open-plan office system and was the result of more than three years of research by the Herman Miller Research Corporation under the direction of Robert Propst.

In-depth studies of human behavior in the office, environmental influences on productivity, health and enthusiasm at work, led Propst to propose a furniture system that challenged the traditional hierarchical organization of the office with an open organization and less rigid.

Desks of different heights should encourage alternation between sitting and standing to encourage concentration and creativity and thus increase efficiency.

Desks with a closable rolltop allow unfinished work to be left on the desk in the evening, to be resumed the next morning without delay.

The Action Office, whose design came from the agency of George Nelson, received the Alcoa Industrial Design Award in 1965.
