Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola est née en Espagne en 1961 et travaille à Milan, où elle a ouvert son studio en 2001. Formée auprès d'Achille Castiglioni, elle dessine du mobilier, des luminaires et des aménagements pour les grandes maisons italiennes, avec un goût marqué pour les matières et les formes souples.

Patricia Urquiola blends materials, colors, and craftsmanship with rare freedom, without ever losing sight of utility. Born in Oviedo in 1961, trained in Madrid and then Milan, she opened her Milanese studio in 2001. Featured here: the Flauta Riga wall lamp for Flos, the Jellies coat hooks and Undique table for Kartell, and the Floe Insel sofa for Cassina.

She studied architecture in Madrid and then at the Politecnico di Milano, where she graduated in 1989 under Achille Castiglioni. She became his assistant, then went on to head the product development office at De Padova alongside Vico Magistretti, followed by the design team at Lissoni Associati. She opened her own studio in 2001.

She has been the art director of Cassina since 2015. The Spanish government awarded her the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts. Her works are held in collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich.
