Knoll Tulip table by Eero Saarinen. 107 cm round Calacatta marble top. Rilsan-coated cast aluminum base. Maker's mark under the base.
The round "Tulip" dining table created by Eero Saarinen in collaboration with Knoll seats four people. With its round, convivial shape and highly studied design, it is resolutely modern and stylish. Eero Saarinen designed this table to promise cleanliness, comfort, and aesthetics: he vowed to address the "ugly, confusing, unrestful world" he observed under chairs and tables—the so-called "slum of legs." After five years of design study, he created the revolutionary Pedestal collection, launched in 1958, to eliminate the clutter of table and chair legs.
The tabletop is white marble with grey veining. A satin protective coating ensures the top's durability while maintaining a natural appearance.
