Eero Saarinen, American architect and designer of Finnish origin, has been immersed in design and architecture since his early childhood. Both of his parents were recognized and renowned in their work: his father Eliel was an architect and the director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art while his mother Loja was a textile designer. Arriving in the United States as a teenager, then studying design and architecture at Yale, Eero Saarinen knew how to innovate after graduating and became the leader of the second generation of modernists in the field of architecture and design. This title was given to him following the observation of his works having shapes and silhouettes never seen and created before. He pushed the limits of certain materials in order to create unique pieces consistent with his sense of personal aesthetics. This emancipation of design codes was possible following the contact that Eero Saarinen had with many designers and architects such as Florence Knoll and Charles and Ray Eames.

The round “Tulip” dining table created by Eero Saarinen in collaboration with Knoll can seat four people. Round in shape, friendly, and designed in a very studied manner, it is resolutely modern and very stylish. Eero Saarinen designed this table promising cleanliness, comfort and aesthetics: he in fact vowed to tackle the "ugly, confusing and remorseless world" that he observed under chairs and tables - the so-called " shantytown of legs”. After five years of design studies, he created the revolutionary Pedestal collection, launched in 1958 so that dust would no longer be found under the legs of tables and chairs.
The table top is made of white marble with gray veins. A protective satin coating ensures durability of the tray with a natural appearance.

Knoll is an American company manufacturing office furniture and equipment.

Headquartered in East Greenville, Pennsylvania, it was founded in 1938 by Hans Knoll, a German-born entrepreneur. With his wife Florence, they created one of the most creative and prolific companies of the post-war era. The “Knoll style” was born: they imposed their vision of layout thanks to the “Planning Unit”, a unique service of its kind for the time, combining interior architecture, design, production, textiles, graphics. After Hans' death in 1955, Florence replaced her husband at the head of the company, leaving it in 1965.

Like Herman Miller, Knoll's importance in 20th century design was considerable. Knoll worked with renowned architects and designers such as Eero Saarinen, Isamu Noguchi, Frank Gehry and Ross Lovegrove.

Many pieces of furniture made by Knoll have become part of design history.
