The VL Ring Crown series is derived from a lamp model designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for the original Radiohuset building in Copenhagen in the 1940s.
The wall and pendant versions, with their characteristic organic shape, were widely used in the Radiohuset building.
Vilhelm Lauritzen also designed the VL38 and VL45 lamps for this project.

The original VL Ring Crown model, however, was never used there. A Ring Crown model based on the original drawings was launched shortly thereafter. In 1947, designer Finn Juhl, who worked with Vilhelm Lauritzen, used the VL Ring Crown for the interior design of the Danish porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grøndahl in Copenhagen.
