Originally designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, in 1957, the AJ lamp is one of Arne Jacobsen's most important design icons. Originally the product line included a floor lamp, a wall lamp, a table lamp and a smaller table lamp as well as a table lamp designed to be attached to a table. The wall light was installed in rows in the hotel entrance hall, for a bright and refined atmosphere.
The AJ wall light has a graphic style that fits perfectly with Jacobsen's design style and contrasts with the curves of some of the furniture at the SAS Royal Hotel. The timeless design of the lamp allows for adaptation to any interior and, over the years, the color palettes have been adapted to modern interior trends.

Born and raised in Copenhagen,Jacobsengraduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After graduating in 1927, he began working for the Municipal Architect of Copenhagen, and after just two years he opened his own studio. As an architect,Arne Jacobsenhad very good decision-making skills. Many more famous projects thus saw the light of day under the name “gesamtkunstwerk”. Which means he not only designed the building itself, but also the majority of the interior details, such as light fixtures, furniture, doors, fabrics and even cutlery. Along with “The Egg” and “The Swan” chairs,Jacobsendesigned theAJ lamp for theSAS Royal Hotelin Copenhagen, which opened in 1960. During his life,Arne Jacobsenreceived several prestigious awards, for projects such as the National Bank of Copenhagen (1971),SAS Royal Hotel& Terminal, Copenhagen (1960) andSt Catherine's Collegein Oxford, UK (1963 ). Some say his fear of flying prevented him from having an impact on the American architectural environment.
