The original light bulb for Gummy lamps, in E14 5V low voltage, fuchsia, yellow or light blue
This is the original light bulb for Gummy lamps, sold as a spare part by Seletti. The supplier's price list describes it as E14, 5V, 2W, 2700K, 185 lumens, LED: the 5V voltage is the point to remember, as it is a low-voltage bulb intended for the USB power supply of Gummy lamps, and not for a standard mains lamp socket, even though the E14 base will screw into one. Three shades exist, one for each model in the collection: fuchsia, yellow, and light blue. The colored glass is part of the lamp's design-it provides the color, not a lampshade-which explains why replacing it with a standard white bulb changes the object. Each reference corresponds to a color and has its own barcode, listed below. If you are unsure about the original shade, the lamp's reference number is your guide: 07140 for Working, 07141 for Dreaming, 07142 for Snooping.
More about the designer
Uto Balmoral is not a birth name but a character: Seletti and Archiproducts describe him as "a character provocatively created to be a product himself," a project led by a designer who does not disclose his identity. He works from Milan and made his first public appearance in 2011, during Milan Design Week, with the "Maybe/Forse" exhibition at the DAAL Gallery, where he displayed the Unstables table collection and The Putrella's Connection lighting series. His philosophy is summed up in one sentence, echoed by the publisher: "I don't believe in design, I believe in ideas"-where objects are primarily messages. He designs furniture, lighting, and accessories for Seletti, Mogg, Tonelli Design, Officinanove, and Sturm Milano.
No date of birth, educational background, or real name have been published to date: we prefer to state this rather than fill in the blanks.
