The Spirale chair was created in 1968 by Louis Durot.
Drawing its origins from the Radical Design movement of the late 1960s, the Spirale chair is made entirely of polyurethane and crafted by hand.
The Spirale chair, a major piece by Louis Durot, is featured in the Vitra Design Museum's Online Collection.

The design

Both a chemical engineer and an artist-designer, Louis Durot explored materials throughout his life. This even led him to work for a time as an assistant to César.
As a scientist specializing in polymers, he designed materials used for the stands at Roland Garros and the Stade de France, as well as for the roofing of the seven satellites at the Roissy 1 terminal.

Since the 1970s, he has created his own furniture with the ambition of producing his pieces using the materials of his time (which he develops himself in his workshop in La Plaine Saint-Denis), characterized by non-conformist and innovative shapes, imbued with a playful, ironic, and impertinent spirit.

“Above all, I innovate. In life, it’s the only thing I know how to do: create new materials and invent new forms.” LOUIS DUROT

La maison

Louis Durot
