Betty TK1 Chair by Thau & Kallio

Betty was designed for the Betty Nansen Theatre in Copenhagen, hence its name. The structure is made of solid wood and form-pressed veneer, with a backrest that follows the back without a cushion. What changes from one version to another is the seat: hand-woven linen webbing for the TK1, wood for the TK2, and upholstered with high-resilience foam for the TK3. All three are stackable up to eight high. The precise color of the upholstery is selected on our Fabrics and Materials page and confirmed before production begins.

What Betty webbing really is

The webbed seat is hand-woven, strand by strand. &Tradition's technical data sheet specifies the exact composition: natural linen and polypropylene. Marketing materials often refer only to "hand-woven linen fibers" and omit the polypropylene; we prefer to give you the actual material. It is this blend that explains the durability of a flexible seat, where linen alone would sag over time. Two colors are available: natural, and stained black—the latter reserved for the black-lacquered ash structure.
