Learn more about this product

Antonio Aricò's "Magna Graecia" collection revisits Greek relics from southern Italy in a playful and contemporary way, using terracotta as the material of choice. The designer, who has traveled around the world, is steeped in Mediterranean culture and decided to return to Calabria, his native region, where Greek culture is very present and omnipresent in architecture and art objects.

With "Magna Graecia", Aricò managed to reflect an imagination more Mediterranean than Calabrian by referencing the Great Greece of Antiquity, the Roman emperors, Sicilian traditions and many others. To create this collection, he accumulated numerous drawings which he then transcribed in volume with 3D software, before replicating them identically in terracotta.

The pieces in this collection feature designs inspired by Doric and Ionic columns, waves, as well as erotic motifs familiar from ancient vases. Among the key pieces of the collection, we find numerous busts and statues inspired by the "Bronzes of Riace", statues of warriors dating from the 5th century BC, as well as female figures mixing men and women in a characteristic gender fluidity. of Greek culture.

Learn more about this designer

Antonio Aricò is an Italian artist and designer known for his playful and imaginative approach to designing objects. Born in 1983 in Reggio Calabria, southern Italy, Aricò studied industrial design at La Sapienza University of Rome before working with renowned designers such as Marcel Wanders and Philippe Starck.

Aricò has quickly made a name for himself in the design world by creating objects that have a strong aesthetic presence while being functional. He works with a variety of materials, including wood, metal, ceramic and glass, and enjoys experimenting with unusual shapes and textures.

One of the distinctive features of Aricò's work is his use of traditional Italian imagery and craftsmanship to create contemporary objects. For example, he created a series of wooden chairs called "L'Attimo" which are inspired by chairs used in traditional Italian taverns. The chairs are handmade by Italian artisans and feature decorative details such as laser engravings.

Aricò is also known for his experimental approach to design, most notably for his project titled "Mindcraft", an installation presented at Milan Design Week 2018. In this installation, Aricò created a series of chairs using a technique called "mindcraft". extrusion", where materials are pressed through a die to create sculptural shapes.

In addition to his design work, Aricò also teaches design at Italian universities and regularly participates in design exhibitions and conferences around the world. Her work has been featured in numerous international publications including Wallpaper, Elle Decor, Interni and AD Italia.
