The LCM (Lounge Chair Metal base) chair is the result of the initial experiments carried out by Charles and Ray Eames starting in 1945 on molding plywood in a way that would best adapt to the contours of the human body.
The Eameses studied the structure of the human skeleton in order to perfect their molding process.
Modeled and tested hundreds of times, the final chair consists of two parts: the petal-shaped back and seat.
It is produced by Herman Miller in the United States and under license by Vitra in Europe.
Thanks to the organic lines of the shells and the slightly flexible backrests, these lightweight and compact chairs are extremely comfortable.
The first letter of an Eames chair's name corresponds to its use:
- D for Dine
- L for Lounge
- R for Rock
- P for Pivot
The second letter defines the type of chair:
- Chairs with armrests have an A for Armchair
- Occasional chairs have an S for Side chair
- Standard chairs have a C for Chair
- Wire chairs have a K for K-wire
The third letter defines the base type:
- W for Wood
- R for Rod
- X for the shape of the letter X
- M for Metal
- S for Stacking
- CC for Cast aluminum Casters
