Stylish, comfortable, and iconic.
The Eames Lounge Chair and its footstool, officially known as the Eames Lounge (670) and Ottoman (671) respectively, were launched in 1956. This chair was the first item intended for mass production that the couple designed.
The Eameses conceived it with the desire to give it "the warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt."
Originally manufactured with a molded, polished rosewood plywood shell, upholstered with thick, feather-down filled cushions, and both pieces mounted on a chrome base, this chair suggests a modern American take on the traditional European club chair.
The Charles & Ray Eames Lounge Chair is a design bestseller with over 6 million units sold.
This design icon is, in fact, part of the permanent collection at the MoMa in New York.
There are two official editions: the American version by Herman Miller and the European version by Vitra.
The two editions are distinguished by differences in finish.
Today, the Lounge Chair is still produced by Vitra and Herman Miller.
However, there have been evolutions regarding the materials used as well as the dimensions.
