Stylish, comfortable, and iconic.The Eames Lounge Chair and its footstool, whose exact designations are Eames Lounge (670) and Ottoman (671) respectively, were launched in 1956. This chair was the first object intended for large-scale commercial production designed by the couple.
The Eameses designed it with the intention of giving it "the warm, receptive look of a well-used first-base baseball mitt."
Originally manufactured with a molded, polished rosewood plywood shell and thick, feather-filled leather cushions, with both pieces mounted on a chrome base, this chair suggests a modern American interpretation of the traditional European club chair.
The Lounge Chair by Charles & Ray Eames is a design bestseller, with more than 6 million units sold.
This design icon is part of the permanent collection at the MoMA in New York.
There are two official editions: one American by Herman Miller and one European by Vitra.
The two editions are distinguished by differences in finish.
Today, the Lounge Chair is still produced by Vitra and Herman Miller.
However, changes have been made regarding the materials used as well as the dimensions.
