Palissade Cantilever dining armchair by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

The Palissade Cantilever range adopts the symmetrical geometry of the original collection and changes the base: the frame rests on a continuous sled base instead of four legs. The seat is thus supported in a cantilever fashion, without any support under the seat: this is what is known as a cantilever. This has two concrete consequences. The silhouette becomes lighter: the empty space under the seat makes it appear as if the chair is resting on nothing. And, above all, the frame works: the steel flexes slightly under weight, making the seat flexible with a spring effect that a four-legged base cannot provide. The seat and backrest remain made of spaced flat slats, which allow rainwater to drain and air to circulate. This is the dining version of the range: eleven centimeters deeper than the armchair, for a seat where you can enjoy an entire dinner. The total height is reduced to 80 cm, that of the original Palissade dining chairs, with which it can be mixed around the same table. It is available in powder-coated steel, a baked-on powder paint that forms a hard, opaque layer, and in hot-dip galvanized steel, dipped in a bath of molten zinc: this finish is not painted, it develops a patina, and it is the one that holds up best in salty atmospheres.
