“A practical lid that fits on HAY's medium and large Colour Crates, allowing you to neatly conceal their contents, whether used alone or on top of a stack.”: HAY. This version is made of powder coated steel, in the series’ colors.
This is the rigid version of the lid: placed on an M, L, or square L crate, either alone or on top of a stack, it creates a flat surface. Only three sizes are available, for the three largest rectangular and square crates; there is no S, XL, or cube version. The less expensive plastic lid is available for all sizes.
The three sizes
-
M: 34.5 × 26.5 × H 1.5 cm
-
L: 53 × 34.5 × H 1.5 cm
-
L square: 42.5 × 42.5 × H 1.5 cm
HAY measurements, length × width × thickness. The lid has the exact footprint of the corresponding crate.
The colors
17 colors: off-white, grey, warm grey, anthracite, light yellow, red, burgundy, blush, powder pink, lavender, mint, sage green, dark green, soft blue, grey-blue, electric blue, dark blue. Each reference has its own visual in the gallery above; not all sizes are available in all colors: the menu only offers the combinations that are manufactured.
The design
The Colour Crate series is not attributed to any external designer: HAY signs it with its own name, and its product page carries no author credit. This is common for this brand, which collaborates with independent designers for part of its catalog while designing the rest in-house. What defines this piece here is its manufacturing: HAY states it is made of 100% recycled post-consumer plastic, stackable, foldable, and designed for daily use.
