Lire la suiteThe interaction between positive and negative space is at the heart of the In Between stool, created by Sami Kallio for &Tradition. Its back and side panels provide both form and support. In Between has a very slightly sloped seat. Its dynamically angled legs provide balance to the shapes, making it a contemporary design classic. In Between was created using two classic techniques: compression molding (which makes the material lightweight and thin yet strong) and woodturning (a technique to achieve more detail). The materials are beech and oak, both of which respond well to the techniques used. The production of In Between involves modern industrial manufacturing processes as well as some human craftsmanship; a harmony between innovation and tradition. In Between nods to the past while bringing a modern, designer touch to this stool.

Sami Kallio
Né en Finlande en 1975 et installé à Göteborg, Sami Kallio a suivi une formation de menuisier avant d'étudier le design à la HDK, et associe fabrication industrielle et gestes de l'ébénisterie. Pour &Tradition, il signe la famille In Between, tables, chaises et tabourets de bar en bois massif.
La maison
&Tradition
&Tradition est un éditeur danois fondé à Copenhague en 2010 par Martin Kornbek Hansen. Son catalogue suit deux lignes : la réédition de classiques du design danois et des créations contemporaines. Côté patrimoine, la maison édite la suspension Flowerpot dessinée par Verner Panton en 1968, le fauteuil Little Petra conçu par Viggo Boesen dans les années 1930, ainsi que des pièces d'Arne Jacobsen et de Jørn Utzon. Côté création, elle travaille notamment avec Space Copenhagen, auteur du canapé Fly, Jaime Hayon et Luca Nichetto.
