“The HAY Colour Crate Mini is a series of colourful storage crates with a distinctive grid design. Made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic in the smallest size of the Colour Crate collection, the mini crates fit inside larger crates and stack on top of each other.”: HAY
Two sizes: the set of 2, two crates measuring 17 × 13 × 8 cm, for pens, cables, spices, or small toys, and the oblong, a single crate 34.5 cm long, which is the length of two minis end-to-end, or the exact length of a Colour Crate M. The minis can be placed in a drawer or on a shelf, and stored inside the larger crates in the series when not in use.
The two sizes
-
Set of 2: 17 × 13 × H 8 cm each
-
Oblong: 34.5 × 13 × H 8 cm
HAY dimensions, length × width × height. The set of 2 and the oblong are the same price.
Recycled plastic, grid design, stackable
All plastic crates and lids in the series are moulded from 100% recycled polypropylene: HAY specifies 100% recycled post-consumer plastic, meaning plastic sourced from household waste collection, not factory scraps. The grid walls lighten the crate, allow the contents to be seen, and serve as handles. The crates “stack on top of each other regardless of size,” fit on a shelf, table, or in a cupboard, and “fold flat when not in use.”

Design
The Colour Crate series is not attributed to any external designer: HAY signs it with its own name, and its product page carries no design credit. This is common practice for this brand, which collaborates with independent designers for part of its catalogue and designs the rest itself. What defines the piece here is its manufacture: HAY declares it to be 100% recycled post-consumer plastic, stackable, foldable, and designed for everyday use.
