Servietto is a towel rack designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1986, part of the Servi series begun with his brother Pier Giacomo. A polypropylene base, a painted steel rod, and two rings for towels: the same "servant" logic as Servomuto or Servopluvio, applied to the bathroom. It is available in talc or black. It is 86 cm high; the base is 31.5 cm in diameter and the towel holder is 20 cm. It is in the collection of the Thessaloniki Design Museum.

Achille Castiglioni

Le designer

Achille Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002), né et mort à Milan, est diplômé d'architecture du Politecnico di Milano en 1944. Il rejoint alors ses frères Livio et Pier Giacomo, puis forme avec ce dernier un tandem qui dure jusqu'en 1968 : Arco et Toio pour Flos en 1962, Mezzadro et Sella pour Zanotta en 1957. Seul ensuite, il poursuit le même travail d'observation des gestes et des objets ordinaires. Il enseigne au Politecnico de Turin à partir de 1969, puis à celui de Milan dès 1980. Huit Compasso d'Oro jalonnent sa carrière, et ses pièces figurent au MoMA, au Victoria and Albert Museum et au Centre Pompidou. Flos et Zanotta éditent toujours une large part de ses dessins.

La maison

Zanotta

Zanotta est un éditeur italien fondé en 1954 par Aurelio Zanotta et installé à Nova Milanese. La maison se distingue tôt en proposant des housses amovibles pour ses canapés et fauteuils, puis s'engage dans le design radical avec le fauteuil Sacco de Gatti, Paolini et Teodoro en 1968, la collection Quaderna de Superstudio, produite depuis 1972, et le portemanteau Sciangai de De Pas, D'Urbino et Lomazzi en 1973. Elle édite aussi le tabouret Mezzadro, conçu en 1957 par Achille et Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Zanotta compte 336 pièces dans les collections de 60 musées et cinq Compassi d'Oro.
