Seletti explains its origin as the intersection of two British traditions: the rave culture of the 1990s—illegal parties, free parties, dance music—and the ritual of tea, “which we drink to celebrate, to mourn, while in shock, and through our neuroses and breakdowns.” The distortion is therefore not a stylistic effect but the very subject of the collection: handles twist, spouts drip, saucers sag, and yet each piece remains functional. The pieces are made of porcelain and decorated with real gold according to the manufacturer, which rules out microwave use and requires hand washing. The sets are sold complete, for two people, making them easy to give as gifts but difficult to complete piece by piece. The teapot and tray share the same distortion and pair together.

La collection Meltdown est sa première incursion dans l'art de la table, éditée par Seletti.

Seletti est un éditeur italien fondé en 1964 à Cicognara, dans la province de Mantoue. La maison édite du mobilier, des luminaires, de l'art de la table et des objets de décoration, et revendique un lien entre design et pop art en détournant les icônes du quotidien. Elle collabore avec des designers et artistes comme Marcantonio, auteur de la Monkey Lamp, Tatiana Brodatch ou Codalunga. En 2014, elle lance Seletti wears Toiletpaper, des assiettes, mugs et nappes qui reprennent les images du magazine créé par Maurizio Cattelan et Pierpaolo Ferrari.
