Angelo Mangiarotti

Le designer

Angelo Mangiarotti

Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012), né et mort à Milan, est diplômé d'architecture du Politecnico di Milano en 1948. Professeur invité à l'Illinois Institute of Technology de Chicago en 1953, il y côtoie Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe et Konrad Wachsmann. De retour à Milan, il travaille avec Bruno Morassutti de 1955 à 1960, puis construit notamment les gares de Milano Certosa et Rogoredo et les stations de métro Porta Venezia et Repubblica. En design, on lui doit les lampes Lesbo et Saffo pour Artemide, les lustres Giogali pour Vistosi et les tables en marbre Eros et Incas. Il reçoit le Compasso d'Oro pour l'ensemble de sa carrière en 1994. Danese Milano édite son cendrier Barbados.

Fondée à Milan en 1957 par Bruno Danese et Jacqueline Vodoz, Danese Milano veut réunir art et design dans un projet à la fois culturel et industriel. Bruno Munari, Enzo Mari et Angelo Mangiarotti y signent des classiques, du calendrier Formosa au porte-crayons Lampedusa.
