Soft Edge 72 Stool by Iskos-Berlin

The 72 is the all-wood version of the stool: oak veneer shell and solid oak legs to match, for the same continuity of material as the 60 chair. 47.5 cm in height, 36 cm in width.

Oak veneer, and why it is curved

The shell is made of oak veneer sheets glued and pressed into a mold: this is known as molded plywood. The process allows for a thin, and therefore lightweight, wall that takes on a continuous curve without edges or joints. This is what gives the series its name: the edge of the seat softens instead of cutting into the thigh.

The lacquer is water-based. Natural oak leaves the grain visible; opaque stains close it off more while keeping the texture in relief.
