Soft Edge 90 bar stool with backrest by Iskos-Berlin

The 90 adds a low backrest in oak veneer to the bar stool, which supports the lower back and stabilizes the seat: HAY notes that the backrest also improves the stool's balance. Two seat heights, 65 and 75 cm, for a total height of 98 or 108 cm. Width 55 cm.

Oak veneer, and why it is curved

The shell is made of oak veneer sheets glued and pressed into a mold: this is known as molded plywood. The process allows for a thin, and therefore lightweight, wall that takes on a continuous curve without edges or joints. This is what gives the series its name: the edge of the seat softens instead of cutting into the thigh.

The lacquer is water-based. The natural oak leaves the grain visible; the opaque colors close it off more while still keeping the grain texture.
