Le designer

Achille et Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) et Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) sont deux frères architectes milanais. Après la guerre, Achille rejoint le studio que Pier Giacomo avait ouvert avec leur frère Livio ; à partir de 1952, les deux cadets travaillent en tandem jusqu'à la mort de Pier Giacomo, en 1968, sans jamais attribuer leurs projets à l'un ou à l'autre. Leur méthode consiste souvent à détourner un objet existant, un siège de tracteur, une selle de vélo, un phare de voiture, pour en faire un meuble ou une lampe. On leur doit chez Flos le lustre Taraxacum (1960), les lampadaires Arco et Toio (1962), et chez Zanotta les tabourets Mezzadro et Sella (1957).

La maison

Zanotta

Zanotta est un éditeur italien fondé en 1954 par Aurelio Zanotta et installé à Nova Milanese. La maison se distingue tôt en proposant des housses amovibles pour ses canapés et fauteuils, puis s'engage dans le design radical avec le fauteuil Sacco de Gatti, Paolini et Teodoro en 1968, la collection Quaderna de Superstudio, produite depuis 1972, et le portemanteau Sciangai de De Pas, D'Urbino et Lomazzi en 1973. Elle édite aussi le tabouret Mezzadro, conçu en 1957 par Achille et Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Zanotta compte 336 pièces dans les collections de 60 musées et cinq Compassi d'Oro.
