This is the Soft Edge 50 with an integrated linking device on the sled base: the chairs hook together to form rows that do not misalign. This is the version designed for conference rooms and venues that frequently set up and clear away. Oak veneer shell, stackable. Height 79 cm, width 52.5 cm.
Oak veneer, and why it is curved
The shell is made of sheets of oak veneer glued and pressed into a mold: this is known as molded plywood. The process allows for a thin, and therefore lightweight, wall that takes on a continuous curve without edges or joints. This is what gives the series its name: the edge of the seat softens instead of cutting into the thigh.
The lacquer is water-based. Natural oak leaves the grain visible; opaque stains cover it more while keeping the texture of the grain.
Some finishes have the seat upholstered in a specific HAY fabric, indicated in the variant name. These are configurations kept in stock: the fabric is not customizable on this page. If you would like a different fabric reference, write to us: HAY produces the series in a wide range of colors, upon request.
Stackable
HAY designates this chair as stackable: it is stored in a pile when the room needs to be used for something else. This is what makes it common in meeting rooms and venues that host events.
