HAY describes the AAC 226 as having "a thin, four-legged steel frame with a clean, elegant expression," with "a shell with a slightly higher backrest" and "a deep, generous seat." As with the AAC 212 and 222, the armrests are low: they support the forearm while allowing the chair to slide under a table or desk. The legs are angled slightly outward.

The shell: recycled polypropylene, what HAY calls "2.0"

The seat and backrest form a single injection-molded shell made from post-consumer plastic waste: this is what the "2.0" in the color names refers to. The material is mass-dyed: a scratch will not reveal a different color underneath, and maintenance is limited to soapy water. On light colors, slight variations in shade are inherent to the recycled material.

The base: powder-coated steel tube

The base is made of bent steel tubing, black powder-coated: a baked-on powder that creates a thick, matte finish, which is more impact-resistant than liquid paint. HAY offers this model in other steel finishes; only black is offered here. Clean with soapy water, no abrasives.
