Same slim legs, same armrests framing the shell, same "slightly more formal expression" and same dimensions as the AAC 18, with a fully upholstered shell.
The upholstered shell, and what the textiles are
The shell is the same as the models with an exposed shell, a molded recycled polypropylene, according to the HAY product sheet, but here it is covered over its entire surface. Foam is placed over the shell and then covered with the chosen upholstery: the feel is softer and noise is better dampened in busy rooms. In return, upholstery must be cleaned by dabbing rather than spraying.
The upholstery options offered here: Steelcut, Kvadrat wool with a dense, slightly granular surface (90% wool, 10% nylon); Hallingdal 65, Kvadrat wool (70% wool, 30% viscose), the brand's classic, very durable; Fiord, two-tone mottled Kvadrat wool (92% wool, 8% nylon).
The base: steel tube, and what chrome changes
The base is made of bent steel tubing, with a powder-coated or chrome finish. Powder coating is a powder baked in an oven: the layer is thick, matte, and withstands impacts from table legs better. Chrome is a shiny electrolytic deposit, harder and resistant to fingerprints, but shows marks visibly if scratched. Both can be cleaned with soapy water; neither likes abrasive products.
