The shell: recycled polypropylene, what HAY calls "2.0"

The seat and backrest form a single injection-molded shell made from post-consumer plastic waste: this is what the "2.0" in the color names refers to. The material is solution-dyed: a scratch will not reveal a different color underneath, and maintenance is limited to soapy water. On light colors, slight variations in shade are inherent to the recycled material.

The base: steel tubing, and what chrome changes

The base is made of bent steel tubing with a powder-coated or chrome finish. Powder coating is a baked-on powder: the layer is thick, matte, and withstands impacts from table legs better. Chrome is a shiny electrolytic deposit that is harder and resistant to fingerprints, but shows marks visibly if scratched. Both can be cleaned with soapy water; neither likes abrasive products.
