Designed by Masanori Umeda for Memphis Milano, the Tawaraya Ring is not just a design object, but an interactive space that invites reflection and conversation. Inspired by boxing rings, it has been transformed into a piece of furniture that serves as both a place for intellectual sparring and relaxation.

The Tawaraya Ring is a fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetic traditions, using the size of a Japanese tatami mat as a reference for the dimensions of the ring, thereby symbolizing the connection between different cultures in design. Umeda’s intention was to create a piece of furniture that was also a living space, reflecting Memphis’s struggle to revolutionize interior design with pieces that provoke dialogue and thought.

La maison

Memphis Milano
