Le designer

Toshiyuki Kita

Toshiyuki Kita, né à Osaka en 1942, sort diplômé en design industriel du Naniwa Junior College en 1962 et fonde son agence en 1967. L'année suivante, il part pour Milan, où il dessine bientôt ses premiers meubles pour Bernini. Son travail va des téléviseurs Aquos pour Sharp au robot Wakamaru pour Mitsubishi, et il s'attache à faire revivre des savoir-faire japonais comme le papier washi. Pour Cassina, il crée en 1980 le fauteuil Wink, suivi de la table d'appoint Kick ; tous deux sont entrés dans la collection permanente du MoMA. Il reçoit le Compasso d'Oro en 2011, puis de nouveau en 2024.

La maison

Cassina

Cassina est fondée en 1927 à Meda par les frères Cesare et Umberto Cassina. À partir de 1948, la maison sépare conception et fabrication et travaille avec des architectes extérieurs, à commencer par Gio Ponti, dont la chaise 699 Superleggera, produite dès 1957, ne pèse que 1,7 kg. En 1965, elle commence à éditer les meubles dessinés dans les années 1920 par Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret et Charlotte Perriand. La collection Cassina I Maestri, lancée en 1973, réunit ces archétypes du XXe siècle et des œuvres de Gerrit T. Rietveld et de Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
