The architect's lamp is one of those objects so familiar that we no longer really look at them. In 2015, the Japanese studio nendo and its founder Oki Sato proposed a reinterpretation for Louis Poulsen: the NJP series. The result combines the heritage of the articulated work lamp with the rigor of Danish design–functional, understated, and built to last.
nendo, minimalism that reveals function
Founded in Tokyo in 2002, nendo has established itself as one of the most influential design studios of its generation. Oki Sato, born in Toronto in 1977 and an architecture graduate from Waseda University, champions a simple idea there: a successful object explains how it works on its own. On the NJP, the springs and joints remain visible, embraced as a decorative element in their own right.
One idea, four forms
The strength of the NJP lies in its consistency: a two-joint arm and a pivoting head, adapted for every daily use.
- The NJP table lamp sits on a desk or console, with a choice of mounting (base, clamp, or pin).
- The NJP Mini adopts the same silhouette in a more compact size, ideal for the bedside, and comes in seven colors.
- The NJP floor lamp brings the articulated arm to room height, perfect as a reading light next to an armchair or sofa.
- The NJP wall lamp mounts to the wall, with a short or long arm, and completely clears the workspace or nightstand.
How to choose your NJP?
It all depends on the use. For a desk, the table lamp is the obvious choice. For a bedside table or a small space, the Mini suffices. For a reading corner in the living room, the floor lamp is highly recommended. And when every centimeter counts, the wall lamp clears the surface while maintaining perfectly adjustable light. All share the same dimmable LED source (2700K or 3000K) and an automatic shut-off timer.
Colors and finishes
White, Black, and Light Aluminum Grey cover the entire range; the Mini adds a warmer palette–Rose Brown, Soft Pink, Taupe, and Petrol Blue. Steel for the base, lacquered aluminum for the arm and head: materials chosen to withstand the passing years.
