The glass distributes light evenly across the entire surface: the orb illuminates the ceiling as much as the floor, without any brighter spots, and remains gentle to look at directly. It is perfect installed on its own above a coffee table, or in a group of three at staggered heights in a stairwell. The intensity is adjustable from 10 to 100 percent.
Things to know before ordering: the bulb is not included. The pendant takes an E27 base bulb of maximum 30 W. Flos recommends a 25 W, 3700 lm, 2700 K LED retrofit bulb with a 240-degree beam.

Michael Anastassiades
Michael Anastassiades, né à Chypre en 1967, vit et travaille à Londres. Ingénieur civil de formation, passé ensuite par le Royal College of Art, il dessine des objets réduits à l'essentiel, où l'équilibre et la géométrie tiennent lieu d'ornement. Ses luminaires pour Flos cherchent la ligne juste plutôt que l'effet et se lisent d'un seul regard.

Flos est fondée en 1962 à Merano par Dino Gavina et Cesare Cassina, avec Arturo Eisenkeil, qui importe des États-Unis une résine plastique projetée, le « cocoon ». Son nom, du latin « fleur », est choisi par Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Dès 1962, Achille et Pier Giacomo Castiglioni dessinent pour la maison le lampadaire Arco, la lampe Taccia et le lampadaire Toio, avant que Tobia et Afra Scarpa ne rejoignent l'aventure. À partir de 1963, Sergio Gandini dirige l'entreprise, installée à Brescia.
