Le designer

Marco Zanini

Né en 1954, Marco Zanini est un designer italien et un des membres fondateurs du groupe Memphis Milano, créé en 1981 avec Ettore Sottsass, Aldo Cibic, Michele de Lucchi, parmi d'autres. Il a joué un rôle clé dans ce mouvement qui se distingue par une rupture avec les principes traditionnels du design post-Bauhaus. Zanini a enrichi le design en introduisant une palette de couleurs plus variée, l'utilisation de motifs, l'emploi de stratifié pour les meubles, et en explorant de nouvelles formes dans les meubles, les luminaires et la vaisselle. Il a également conçu une collection de céramiques caractérisée par des couleurs vives et des formes déstructurées.

La maison

Memphis Milano

Memphis naît à Milan le soir du 11 décembre 1980, chez Ettore Sottsass, entouré notamment de Michele De Lucchi, Aldo Cibic, Matteo Thun, Marco Zanini et Martine Bedin. Le nom vient d'une chanson de Bob Dylan, Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, qui passait ce soir-là. La première collection, 55 objets, est présentée le 18 septembre 1981 à la galerie Arc '74, avec les bibliothèques Carlton et Casablanca de Sottsass et la Super Lamp de Martine Bedin. Le groupe se dissout en 1988, et la société Memphis poursuit aujourd'hui l'édition de ces pièces depuis La Morra.
