Same open bent steel frame, same stackability, same dimensions as the AAC 08, with a fully upholstered shell. HAY uses the same formula: "a functional stackability with great comfort and a welcoming expression."
The upholstered shell, and what the textiles are
The shell is the same as the non-upholstered models, a molded recycled polypropylene—according to the HAY product sheet—but here it is covered over its entire surface. Foam is placed over the shell and then covered with the chosen upholstery: the feel is softer and sound is better dampened in high-traffic rooms. In return, upholstery must be cleaned by dabbing rather than spraying.
The covers offered here: Hallingdal 65, a Kvadrat wool blend (70% wool, 30% viscose), the company's classic, highly durable; Steelcut, a Kvadrat wool blend with a dense, slightly granular surface (90% wool, 10% nylon).
The sled base: an open, bent steel frame
HAY describes this base as "an open frame made of bent steel that adds lightness to the design." A single continuously bent tube that rests on the floor via two skids instead of four legs: the floor is not marked by four points, and the chair glides rather than catches. Two powder-coated steel finishes: black and white.
This model is stackable. HAY puts it this way: the upright, rounded shell "combines functional stackability with great comfort." This is what makes it suitable for multipurpose rooms and public spaces, where seats are stored away between uses.
