Mies Armchair and Footstool by Archizoom Associati / L 131 cm

The Mies chair was born in 1969 from the idea of using a strip of gum or Indian rubber—resistant and elastic materials—as a seat. The structure, a chrome-plated metal triangle, highlights the purity of the silhouette. The headrest and footrest cushions are made of pony skin. The name emphasizes the structure's similarity to the projects of Mies van der Rohe, in homage to the great master who died that same year. With its rigorous geometric design, the Mies chair encapsulates the philosophy of Archizoom Associati, leading figures of the Italian Radical movement from the second half of the 1960s.
