Il a dessiné aussi bien du mobilier que des hôtels, des yachts ou des brosses à dents, avec une constante : donner à des objets du quotidien une présence et une intelligence d'usage qui dépassent leur fonction. Il travaille avec Flos depuis les années 1990.

Now aged 71, the designer has tried his hand in every field imaginable: household appliances, architecture, nautical design, perfumery, food, lighting, transport, hotels, and many other sectors as well. A true pioneer in democratic design, Philippe Starck quickly achieved success and made himself a famous name throughout the world in the 1980s.

Indeed, the year 1983 will mark the great boom in Philippe Starck's notoriety, in the eyes of the general public. François Mitterrand, then president, chose it to decorate the private apartments of the Élysée. This decision promotes design as an art in its own right, and propels Philippe Starck to international fame.
