Michael Anastassiades

Michael Anastassiades is a Cypriot designer based in London, where he opened his studio in 1994. His work relies on very little: a sphere, a line, a point of balance, and a light that settles without ever dazzling. This signature style can be found in the IC Lights, String Lights, and Coordinates he designs for Flos, all of which are featured here.

Learn more about Michael Anastassiades

Trained in civil engineering at Imperial College London, he went on to earn a master's degree in industrial design at the Royal College of Art. He founded his London studio in 1994, and in 2007 launched his own production company to manufacture his most personal pieces himself.

His vocabulary is one of elementary geometry: spheres, rods, counterweights. Each light fixture seeks the perfect balance, both literally and figuratively. His creations are held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the MAK in Vienna, and the FRAC Centre in Orléans.
