VL Ring Crown 1 pendant light - Louis Poulsen: Elegance and luminous
The VL Ring Crown line is derived from a lamp model designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for the former Radio House in Copenhagen in the 1940s.
The wall light and pendant versions, with their characteristic organic shape, were widely used in the Copenhagen Radio House.
Vilhelm Lauritzen also designed the VL38 and VL45 lamps for this project.
The original VL Ring Crown model, however, was never used there. A Ring Crown model based on the original plans was released shortly afterwards. In 1947, designer Finn Juhl, who worked with Vilhelm Lauritzen, employed VL Ring Crown for the interior design of the Danish porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grøndahl in Copenhagen.
Learn more about this designer
Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894 - 1984) is one of the most important architects in Danish history; he was the emblematic figure of Danish functionalism. A number of its buildings from the 1930s, the Nørrebro theater, the Daells Varehus department store, the Radio House and the first airport built in Kastrup, represented a concentrate of contemporary life.
In the 1950s, Folkets Hus, better known today as the Vega concert hall, the Shellhuset building, are also important buildings from the drawing board of Vilhelm Lauritzen.
The Radio House and the first version of Kastrup Airport, which are today listed, are considered leading monuments of the modernist trend in European architecture.
Learn more about the brand
The Louis Poulsen house has been designing exceptional lighting since 1874. The Danish brand considers light as a material that is sculpted through the skilful handling of chiaroscuro and innovative techniques such as the famous system of three lampshades developed by Poul Henningsen . Its ambition is to offer soft, indirect lighting, welcoming and a source of well-being, without ever dazzling.
The brand is committed to providing lighting made to last using the best quality materials, assembled by highly skilled craftsmen. The pieces can thus be passed down from generation to generation, notably thanks to a timeless design, unchanged since the 1950s for certain models.
