Pink Lipstick placemat by ToiletPaper

Beyond tableware, Toiletpaper dresses the table setting itself: the tablecloth, the tray, the placemat. The principle remains the same, an image from the magazine transferred onto an ordinary medium, but the medium dictates its use. The tablecloth is a 140 cm-wide vinyl and cotton blend, the tray is 32 x 43.5 cm melamine with a 2 cm rim, and the placemat is polypropylene and cork: three materials and three formats for the same repertoire of images. These pieces can be combined or placed on a bare table, depending on the dose of imagery desired at the table.

The series' placemats are made of polypropylene and cork, a composition that distinguishes them from both the vinyl of the tablecloth and the melamine of the tray. Each one features an image and can be placed alone on a bare table, or beneath a plate from the collection. The format is rectangular, but it varies from one reference to another: each piece has its own dimensions, between 30 and 32.6 cm in one direction, and between 45 and 49.5 cm in the other. The difference is measured in centimeters and goes unnoticed on a single placemat; however, it becomes visible when several different images are lined up along the same table. Six copies of the same reference create an aligned table setting, while six different references create an uneven line, which stays true to the spirit of the collection.
