Designed in 1953 and first presented in 1955 at the Synthesis of the Arts exhibition in Tokyo, the 524 Berger stool is part of a series based on the reinterpretation of the local architecture of the Alps, a region much loved by Charlotte Perriand.

It is to be paired with the 523 Méribel stool.

These stools are both inspired by the mountains, one taking its name from the Alpine shepherds who used this type of stool for milking, the other from the French town, which Perriand was fond of. These complementary pieces are distinguished by the purity of their simple forms
and by their pragmatic aspect, expressed through the material and the function for which they are intended. The turned seat is matched with stylized legs, both for the Berger Stool, a low variant with three hand-turned solid wood legs, and for the Méribel Stool, a high version with three angular, cut-section legs. Produced by Cassina, they are the result of meticulous craftsmanship that honors the authenticity of the design. These small masterpieces can be used individually or in highly original compositions. The use of solid wood offers a pleasant sensation of softness, with the continuity of the grain between the top and the edge, while the depth of the surfaces creates infinite natural variations on each piece.

La maison

Cassina
