This armchair was designed in the 1970s by Studio DDL (De Pas, D'Urbino, Lomazzi). This hyper-realistic, warm, and inviting armchair, inspired by the pop-art spirit, is mounted on invisible wheels.
With this project, the designers gave material form to their admiration for the legendary American baseball star Joe DiMaggio, with a bold change of scale.

Le designer

Studio DDL

Le Studio DDL est fondé en 1966 par Jonathan De Pas, Donato D'Urbino et Paolo Lomazzi, rencontrés pendant leurs études au Politecnico de Milan. Avec Carla Scolari, le trio signe en 1967 pour Zanotta Blow, premier fauteuil gonflable en PVC produit en série. En 1970 naît Joe, fauteuil en forme de gant de baseball baptisé en hommage à Joe DiMaggio et édité par Poltronova. Dans les décennies suivantes, le studio revient au bois, à l'acier et au cuir pour Zanotta, BBB Bonacina ou Driade.

Laboratoire du design radical

Fondée en 1957 à Agliana, près de Pistoia, par Sergio Cammilli, Poltronova devient avec Ettore Sottsass comme directeur artistique le laboratoire du design radical. Archizoom et Superstudio y signent le canapé Superonda ou la lampe Passiflora, Sottsass le miroir Ultrafragola.
