Le designer

Afra & Tobia Scarpa

Tobia Scarpa, né à Venise en 1935, fils de l'architecte Carlo Scarpa, et Afra Bianchin (1937-2011), née à Montebelluna, sont tous deux diplômés d'architecture de l'IUAV de Venise en 1957. Après un passage de Tobia chez Venini, à Murano, de 1957 à 1961, le couple ouvre en 1960 son agence à Montebelluna. Suivent le canapé Bastiano pour Gavina en 1961, le Coronado pour B&B Italia en 1966, des lampes pour Flos et, de 1964 à 1993, les usines et bureaux de Benetton. Pour Cassina, ils dessinent en 1968 la famille Soriana, fauteuil et canapé. Ils reçoivent le Compasso d'Oro en 1970, et leurs pièces figurent notamment au MoMA.

La maison

Cassina

Cassina est fondée en 1927 à Meda par les frères Cesare et Umberto Cassina. À partir de 1948, la maison sépare conception et fabrication et travaille avec des architectes extérieurs, à commencer par Gio Ponti, dont la chaise 699 Superleggera, produite dès 1957, ne pèse que 1,7 kg. En 1965, elle commence à éditer les meubles dessinés dans les années 1920 par Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret et Charlotte Perriand. La collection Cassina I Maestri, lancée en 1973, réunit ces archétypes du XXe siècle et des œuvres de Gerrit T. Rietveld et de Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
