Description

The On-Off lamp is a house made of recycled paper, cut, folded, and glued. The light does not emerge from a lampshade but from the openings in the facade: the windows and door let the beam through, creating a focused, cut-out lighting effect rather than general diffusion. Recycled cardboard defines the rest of the object: it is lightweight, can be placed anywhere, and is sensitive to moisture and splashes, which makes it suitable for a desk or shelf rather than a bathroom. The manufacturer lists dimensions of 16 × 16 × 25 cm, comparable to the footprint of a small bedside lamp. Tomas Schats

Tomas Schats est un artiste et designer néerlandais installé à Rotterdam. Il s'est formé à l'Académie des beaux-arts de Bois-le-Duc entre 1997 et 2001, avec un passage par la Kunsthøgskolen de Bergen en Norvège, et travaille à la fois comme sculpteur, illustrateur et designer : ses dessins ont été commandés par le New York Times, le NRC Handelsblad, la VPRO et le musée Boijmans Van Beuningen. Il a enseigné à la Willem de Kooning Academy de Rotterdam de 2012 à 2024. Sa lampe On-Off a été retenue par le MoMA Design Store de New York et lui a valu un German Design Award en 2023 et un LOOP Design Award en 2022.

Seletti

Seletti est un éditeur italien fondé en 1964 à Cicognara, dans la province de Mantoue. La maison édite du mobilier, des luminaires, de l'art de la table et des objets de décoration, et revendique un lien entre design et pop art en détournant les icônes du quotidien. Elle collabore avec des designers et artistes comme Marcantonio, auteur de la Monkey Lamp, Tatiana Brodatch ou Codalunga. En 2014, elle lance Seletti wears Toiletpaper, des assiettes, mugs et nappes qui reprennent les images du magazine créé par Maurizio Cattelan et Pierpaolo Ferrari.
