Japanese designer Masanori Umeda, one of the founding members of the subversive Memphis collective, has been back at Memphis Milano since 2020 through the new Night Tales collection. These new products designed by Masanori Umeda now belong to the Post Design collections. The Night Tales collection consists of the Utamaro series as well as several projects based on archival drawings from the early 1980s.
The Utamaro collection consists of a double bed, a sofa, and an armchair, inspired by the erotic rituals of the Edo period: women and traditional house interiors depicted in the works of Japanese painter Kitagawa Utamaro.
These three coordinated pieces of furniture feature a tubular metal structure in blue or fuchsia, with borders in the iconic black and white checkerboard laminate, tatami mats, trays with lacquered surfaces, and silk cushions in flamboyant colors.
