Soft Edge 80 bar stool by Iskos-Berlin

The 80 features an oak veneer shell on long steel legs. It is available in two seat heights, 65 and 75 cm: 65 for a standard kitchen island, 75 for a high bar or counter. Width 40 cm. Backless: it is the stool that disappears under the counter when not in use.

Oak veneer, and why it is curved

The shell is made of sheets of oak veneer glued and pressed into a mold: this is called molded plywood. The process allows for a thin, and therefore lightweight, wall that takes on a continuous curve without edges or joints. This is what gives the series its name: the edge of the seat softens rather than cutting into the thigh.

The lacquer is water-based. The natural oak leaves the grain visible; the opaque colors cover it more, while still keeping the grain in relief.
